check the gate

Marcel Duchamp. Nude Descending a Staircase, N...Image via Wikipedia

[the room is drab and lit dimly by a single lamp in the corner]
[at a small table sits a woman across from a man with unshaven face and crooked glasses]
[a blank expression on his face as she utters in stops and starts her broken narrative]

"I figured one day ...

I'd just wake up and find out what yesterday was all about ...

I'm not too keen about thinkin' about tomorrow ...

and today's slippin' by ...

I guess [sic] I went into a bad time ...

when I was watchin' everything go around me while I was standin' in the middle ...

watchin' it like in a dark theater ...

before they bring the lights up ...

I'm sittin' there ...

wonderin'...

how can this be?"

[phone rings many times]
[neither acknowledges ringing phone]
[man eventually gets up walks out of room to answer and speaks to caller]
[she exits unseen down long dark staircase screwdriver in hand]

Hi Peter,
Didn't see this film.
It must be good.
Hoe you're at peace.
If not you'll be. Just wait and see.

hey Peter,
Just wanted to say hi and say I've been popping in on you...writing is a huge effort lately...and so I save it mostly for my blog...

at the moment I'm a tad better and wanted to wish you well and that your leg might heal quickly and completely...

this movie scene was upsetting and I feared it was about you...

glad you haven't had to deal with that particular tragedy.

@Mark - Thanks for waking me from my slumber.

@Ana - Most people wouldn't like the movie. You have to be a fan of David Lynch movies. Another one is Mulholland Drive, which is more watchable than "Inland Empire."

@Gianna - Thanks. I understand about the writing being a huge effort. You're better at sticking with it than I am.

@Susan - (See note to Ana above regarding this movie. I doubt you would like it. Unless you like bizarre chronologically-challenged movies. I liked it though.)
